Occasionally families experience difficulties that are beyond their control, and today’s economy has created enormous financial stress for some local residents. Families and residents with unexpected financial crises may receive limited financial help or supplies from a fund at the Centre. The Centre can also help direct residents to other community programs that may provide additional financial assistance.
What does this program include?
Limited financial assistance is available through the Resource Centre for immediate needs such as:
- medications
- baby needs
- groceries
- clothing or personal items
- gas money or taxi fares to attend medical appointments or job interviews
- school supplies
Eligibility
Assistance is usually provided on a one-time basis, and is available for residents who are not eligible for government financial assistance programs. Resource Centre coordinators meet with families requesting help to determine needs. Referrals are made as necessary.
Funding
This program relies completely on donations and fund-raised dollars; it is not part of the operating budget. The Resource Centre welcomes cash donations and grocery store and gas gift certificates from community residents, service clubs, businesses and various groups to operate this program. Cash donations over $10 are eligible for tax receipts.
