Feedback from residents, businesses, community groups, Town Council, committees and staff will be essential in developing both the strategy and a matching toolkit. The Town is working with the engagement firm MODUS to gather input and develop the strategy and toolkit.
“This process will give us the tools and tactics to foster better and deeper conversations with our citizens in the municipal decision-making process,” said CAO Elaine Vincent. “By ensuring consistent communication with stakeholders, Council can be confident that decisions reached will reflect our residents’ priorities and interests.”
The Public Participation Strategy is the first step in determining how the Town can draw in more voices and ensure Council and staff are considering that input in final directives and in ensuring effective service delivery.
“This project differs from other public involvement projects we’ve done in that it is asking residents and stakeholders how they want to be involved in municipally-focused conversations,” said Nancy Weigel, director of corporate and strategic services.

Town launches public participation strategy survey
Okotoks residents are invited to share their preferences on how to augment conversation and dialogue in municipal decisions. The feedback collected is essential in assisting the Town, and engagement firm MODUS, to develop a comprehensive Public Participation strategy and toolkit.
The Town has launched a survey as part of the Public Participation Strategy project to gather feedback from residents and stakeholders on how they would like to be involved in town-focused conversations.
The online survey, available from June 9-July 9, is at: okotoks.ca/publicparticipation
Paper copies are available at the Municipal Centre reception area. There is also an opportunity to take the survey at the Operations Centre grand opening event this Saturday, June 10.
